If you participate in a video conference via telephone, the audio data is transmitted via the network of the mobile phone provider and may not be encrypted.

For better audio and video quality, a direct peer-to-peer connection can be used for video conferencing in Google Chat. Routing over such a connection is sometimes more efficient than over Google servers.
